I thoroughly enjoyed doing this show, it's rare i am so satisfied with how nicely a show knits together. I started with some classic Marvin Gaye, then played three stomping swing numbers from Count Basie followed by a fairly tense number from a Montreal based 3 piece called Hrsta which led nicely into a track from Howlin' Wolf.
I played a track by my good friend Joe aka Jiltloop who can be found on myspace if you have a sconce, i rounded off the first half with some Bobby Vinton.
The second half i began with one of the great american blues/folk songwriters in Hubie 'Leadbelly' Leadbetter who i folllowed with one of the great interpreters of song Harry Belafonte singing a track that was a real revelation to me- when people say he was an emotive singer i dismissed it as sentimental but i was blown away by the power of his version of a Leadbelly's 'Sylvie', next was a cool number from Quincy Jones in the mid 60's and i then ended with a random piece of electronica i found on one of robin's old compilation cds he used to do for the show that i will try and hunt down the name of.
